Our Story

Two Fort Worth legends, one pit.

We're proud to feature the Original Sammie Sauce, homemade onion rings, and vinegar cole slaw, all still made from the original recipes.

Sammie Norwood opened the original Sammie's in 1946, a carhop stand in front of the building we still smoke in today. The Platt family took it over in 1970 and kept the fires going. The doors closed in 2017, and that same year the Gibbins family bought the place. They remodeled it and reopened it in 2018.

Sammy is now the proud owner and pitmaster, giving his father Sam Sr. a well-earned retirement after a long and successful twenty-plus years in barbecue, a run that started when he purchased The Smoke Pit Barbecue on Belknap in 2001.

We're at 3801 E Belknap St in Riverside, by Oakhurst, east of downtown Fort Worth on the way to Haltom City. It's an easy drive from Haltom City, Richland Hills and North Richland Hills, and from downtown and the Stockyards. Catering delivers around Fort Worth.
Do you take reservations or walk-ins?
No reservations needed; seating is first come, first served. For a group of ten or more, call (817) 834-1822 before you head over.
Is there parking at Sammie's Bar-B-Q?
There is free parking at the restaurant on East Belknap in Fort Worth.
Do you have a kids menu?
Yes. There is a kids menu with smaller plates, and families are welcome any time we are open, Tuesday through Saturday.
Is there a patio, and can I bring my dog?
There is outdoor seating out front, and leashed dogs are welcome at the outside tables.
Do you have a happy hour?
No happy hour. Daily plate specials run all day, Tuesday through Saturday from 10:30 AM to 7 PM.
Is there a minimum order for catering?
No set minimum. We cater by the pound or by the plate, from a two-meat spread to a full buffet for fifty or more, with 48 hours notice.
Can I book a private party?
Yes. There is a private patio and a party room at the restaurant on East Belknap. Send the form or call (817) 834-1822 with the date and headcount.
Do you deliver, and can I order online?
Order online through our ordering page and pick up at the drive thru window without getting out of the car. Catering is pickup on East Belknap or delivery around Fort Worth, and anywhere in DFW for the right price: call and ask.
Is there a drive thru?
Yes. The drive thru runs the same hours as the restaurant, Tuesday to Saturday from 10:30 AM to 7 PM. Order online, then pick up at the drive thru window without getting out of the car.
